After enduring a few weeks of crappy reception, I finally found a chance to work on my Wellbrook ALA100 Large Aperture loop. I use the loop in a delta configuration, and the center is supported by a telescoping fiberglass mast. I replaced the feedline, and in addition to replacing the wire of the loop itself, I also reduced area of the loop slightly to 4m x 8m. In the process I found that the braid of the coax had pulled loose from the antenna side connector, doh! The noise floor on the antenna dropped by 15 dB and reception is much, much better.
UnID, 6930.1 AM, 2333 – weak station playing bluegrass songs. Perhaps Radio Appalachia?
UnID, 6928 USB, 2340 – poor to fair signal, playing White Rabbit, Born To Be Wild, Fortunate Son and Hey Joe then appeared to go QRT. No ID heard.
UnID, 6925 USB, 2353 – strong signal and great audio. Played Iron Man by the Sabbath and then a few minutes of silence. Perhaps this one back at 0109 with Radar Love. White Rabbit at 0016, so perhaps this is the same station that was previously on 6928 USB? No ID yet.
Radio Appalachia, 6934.8v AM, 0058 – weakish signal, but excellent Bluegrass music as always. ID heard at 0103 UTC and more bluegrass.
Wolverine Radio, 6925 USB, 0140 – good signal with a nice Led Zeppelin set including Ozone Baby, Gallows Pole, That’s The Way, Black Dog and lots more!
