Pirate Radio Logs + WEAK Radio QSL – July 8-9, 2009

My apologies for this late posting! I accidentally took a nap after work, and just never got caught up after sitting down at the controls of the Perseus. Some of these logs are “live”, and others are being harvest this morning from the Perseus dirft-net. Crazy active night for the middle of the week!

Thinking Man Radio, 6925, 0117 – tune in during mid-program, good signal but soon fading significantly. Midnight Rider, ID and email, last song Lighter Shade of Pale, one last ID and gone at 0128 UTC.

Captain Morgan Shortwave (tentative), 6923.6v AM, 0146 – Tentative Captain Morgan due to short bit of Twilight Zone theme heard. No announcements heard. Audio slightly distorted and transmitter jumping around approx. +/- 100 Hz. Set included Brown Sugar, The Call Me The Breeze, Play That Funky Music and Drift Away.

Pirate Radio USA relay via Outhouse Radio, 6925 USB, 0129 – ID of “This is a special broadcast transmission from Pirate Radio USA originating from KQLZ FM Los Angeles” (audio clip). Brief transmission.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0204 – moderate signal with lots of static. Crosby Still & Nash songs, ID at 0220 UTC and off.

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, 0238 – great signal from WEAK! Set included James Brown, Dr. Demento, Elvis the Singing Dog, Bob Marley, etc. Parents of Girls Gone Wild spoof commercial. Multiple ID’s.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0255 – noticed DCR back at 0255 with a better signal. Set included Buffy Come Back, Johnny Are Your Queer, Video Killed The Radio Star and other. ID at 0315 and off again.

Pirate Radio USA relay via Outhouse Radio, 6925 USB, 0319 – Outhouse relaying Pirate Radio USA, see link for details of this program.

M-A-C Shortwave, 6924.7v AM, 0325 – Interval weakly heard, times pips, Ultraman heard at 0332 UTC. Extremely weak, threshold audio. Splatter from WYFR.

Radio Margaritaville, 6930 USB, 0408-0508 – initially threshold signal slowly improving too fair levels by 0420 UTC. Back to back Jimmy Buffett songs, set included Miss You So Badly, Incommunicado, It’s My Job and more. ID at 0508 UTC. Station jumped down to 6925 kHz USB at 0508 UTC. New station! Fingers crossed for a QSL…

Radio Margaritaville, 6925 USB, 0508-0538 – good signal. Back to back Jimmy Buffett songs, set included Distantly In Love, Come To The Moon, Somewhere Over China and more. ID at 0521 UTC (audio clip).

Outhouse Radio, 6930 USB, 0459-0559 – good signal, set included Powerman 500, Cars, Rob Zombie, S.T.P., Steve Miller, ZZ Top, Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix. Off at 0559 UTC.

UnID, 6925 USB, 0557-0618 – generally a decent signal, no ID or announcements heard. Set including B.O.C., April Wine, Garbage. Off at 0618 UTC.

UnID, 6925 USB, 0655-0712 – poor signal, no ID or announcements heard. Tune in to Year of the Cat by Al Stewart. Played a few more songs I couldn’t make out, then Walking In Memphis at 0707 UTC and appearing to leave the air at 0712 UTC.

QSLs WEAK Radio hooked Lex and I up with this nice QSL tonight’s broadcast. This makes 12 different WEAK Radio QSLs in the Album. Evil Monkey loves WEAK! Thank you, thank you very much!

UnID, 6925 USB, 2243 – somebody having audio issues with audio cutting in and out. Black Sabbath songs War Pigs, Iron Man.

UnID, 6955.27v AM, *2314-0000* – carrier with threshold audio heard at sign-on, slowly drifting downward in frequency. Imporved slightly with audible music just before leaving the air at 0000 UTC.

Radio Ga-Ga, 6925 USB, 0020 – sign-on with SSTV image, songs including Black Betty, Black Magic Woman, Night Moves.

UniD, 6951.8v LSB, *0038-0043* – started with Dylan’s Times They Are A Changin’ then man talking about martial law and prison camps in the USA.

UnID, 6925.1 USB, 0058-0109* – playing what sounds like White Zombies music, SSTV, no ID heard and left the air at 0109 UTC.

Radio Marlene, 6925 USB, 0109 – weak signal, audible after UnID station went QRT. Cinnamon Girl, ID’s with email address. Announcements at much better levels than the music.

UnID, 6930.7 USB, 0140 – banjo music at tune in. This is close to the same frequency as Uncle Bob was talking on earlier. Yep, Uncle Bob talking at 0143 UTC.

Thinking Man Radio, 6925 USB, 0146 – poor signal but some almost okay peaks, tune in to Take It Too The Limit by the Eagles, ID, email. Rod Stewart’s Reason To Believe, Foreigner’s Cold As Ice. ID and email at 0207 UTC and gone.

Wolverine Radio, 6925 USB, 0211 – excellent signal, Wolverine Radio ID at 0125. Some songs played were Happy Together, Soul Man, Jimmy Mack, Respect, Groovin’.

QSLs Since I haven’t received any QSL’s, here is another blast from the past. This is a cardboard ‘folder’ card from Altered States Radio, featuring Jim Morrison with the QSL info on the inside. This QSL is for my reception of a Christmas Eve broadcast on 7412.85 kHz way back in 1993.

I spoke too soon about not receving any QSL’s today, as another nice Radio Marlene QSL is received. This is Radio Marlene QSL #3 in the album, which makes Evil Monkey very happy. Thanks Radio Marlene!

A second QSL received this evening, which is my 6′th different QSL from Radio Ga-Ga! Evil Monkey is swinging on the curtains. Thank you Radio Ga-Ga!

Thinking Man Radio, 6925.1 USB, 0030 – initially poor signal but strengthening nicely. Blondie, ID, mentions of Lexington and Concord, Styx. Gone at 0056 UTC.

Barnyard Radio, 6925 USB, 0139 – a simply huge signal tonight, wow. Sign-on with non-stop laughing, then multiple IDs, Song With No Name by Heaven 17, WXJL Tonight by Human League. I can hardly believe how strong this signal is, I think it is the best pirate signal I have received yet!

QSLs Kracker posted a QSL for last nights broadcast to the FRN forums. Featured on this QSL is Kracker’s asylum. Another station QSL’d and one step closer to ruling the world Thanks Kracker!

Received a very cool new QSL from Thinking Man Radio for the broadcast tonight. That’s fast!! Thank you Thinking Man!

I also got the most awesome QSL ever from Radio Ga-Ga today. Pic’s tomorrow!

WEAK Radio, 6925 USB, 0120 – Strong signal at 0140 tune-in, playing Fixx, House of Pain, Buzzcocks, Dirtbombs and the always excellent Foggy Mountain Boys’ Man of Constant Sorrow. Signal took a dive around 0148 to barely audible. Nice program as always!

QSLs After a long drought, Thinking Man Radio QSL’s their excellent broadcast of May 13. The Operator advised that this was an impromptu re-broadcast of their May 2′nd show. Thank ya, thank ya very much!

Unid, 6920.92 AM, 2340-0010* – weak station so far, playing some pretty laid back vocal selections; none of which I am familiar with so far. Gone at 0010 UTC, no ID heard. Is this the same station that I heard on 6923.96v AM on May 11? Intermittent QRM from a folks talking in Spanish on 6923.6 kHz in both LSB and USB, with a couple mentions of Cartagena.
Thinking Man Radio, 6925 USB, 0055-0117* – poor to almost fair signal playing Kinks, JFK speech, Some Kind of Wonderful, etc. Good broadcast, new station for me. Thank ya, thank ya very much.
Unid, 6924.3 USB, 0126-0223* – Some massive insanity! A mind control experiment from inside your own head gone sour. Some looney kid telling me if I go down to the woods today, I better not go alone. Pretty awesome show. No ID yet.

And pirate QSLs? What are those?
