Ragnar’s latest edition of the Pirate’s Week podcast is out! I had an early start this morning, and was able to catch the Voice of the Last DJ!

WLDJ Voice of the Last DJ, 6925 USB, *1356-1423* – nice signal this morning, playing old school rock like Hendrix, Bad Company, Foreigner and Dire Straits. Multiple ID’s by Krystal, the computer generated female voice announcer. Here is an audio clip of the ID at 1418 UT: ♫ clip. Thank you for the early morning broadcast!

WBNY Relay Service, 6899.6 AM, *1950-2222 – started off at threshold levels and slowly strengthening after 0000 UT. Relays of Pirate’s Week, Voice of Next Thursday, promos for WBNY hats and t-shirts. *Perseus Update* noted WBNY signing on at 1950 UT with threshold audio with deep fades. A few sudden strong peaks noted around 2017z with Pirate’s Week relay programming. Another nice peak at 2218z with Ragnar talking about Sealord’s awesome DX Engineering 4 Square antenna.

The Crystal Ship, 6876.04v, *2228-0310* – very nice signal from Poet this evening, starting off with a Ho Ho Ho & a Bottle of Rum interval signal, lot’s of Elvis tunes, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. Almost a 5 hour marathon!

Radio Ronin Shortwave, 6950.4 AM, *2308-0110* – poor to fair signal, playing rocks tune by Blue Öyster Cult, the Animals, Bob Seger, Foghat, Billy Idol, multiple IDs. Off at 0110 with ID and email.

The Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, *2323 – KAOS signing on with Get Smart theme a repeat broadcast of the Friday evening show. Weak signal but generally readable, het from presumed Outhouse on 6925.2 AM. Hold Your Head Up

Barnyard Radio, 6930 USB, *0049-0310* – Barnyard with blowtorch signal. Chuck Manson spinning heavy tunes by Manowar, Testament, Dead Kennedys, Slayer and much more. Here is a off-air recording of the first 50 minutes of the show:

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.8v AM, *0119 – good signal from the Captain, playing tons of obscure old blues tunes, excellent show.

Coyote Radio CYOT, 6950.4 AM, 0134 – Mr. Announcer spinning oldies, wishing a happy Mothers Day. Rather poor signal this evening.

Outhouse Radio, 6925 USB, 0213 – fair signal from Outhouse, playing some blues, Sabbath, Bob Seger. Outhouse mentioned he left his AM transmitter up for 7 hours. I had the carrier here but audio was threshold at best.

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, 0325 – tuned in to WEAK in progress, and this time the signal was weak. I did cath one clear ID, but that was about all I could pull out of the broadcast.

Check out these two totally awesome QSL’s received, one from Coyote Radio and the other from WHYP Shortwave! A big thank you, thank you very much goes out to Mr. Announcer and James Brownyard! Both of these are new pirate stations verified for me!

I just realized that I never scanned and posted my Channel Z and WREC QSL cards that I received last year! I will do that soon.

Lots and lots of unid carriers and transmissions this evening many of which I couldn’t ID.

Outhouse Radio, 6929.97 USB, 2218 – Outhouse playing a rockabilly song. Poor to fair signal. I had to run some errands so couldn’t listen longer.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0016 – weak but readable… KAOS on the high seas, Russian warship hunting down pirates, KAOS in romain lettuce, music by Argent and ZZ Top, ID’s and email announcements then off with Get Smart theme music.

OSM Radio, 6925 USB, 0117 – very weak, played a few Jimmy Buffet songs, ID mentioning test transmission and “Voice of the Computer Revolution” then Son of a Son of a Sailor and then off. Per Sealord’s clip, definitely sounds like OSM Radio.

Baby Time Radio, 6925 USB, 0140 – Sirens, mad cats, moo cows, howling wolves, crazy babies and other varmits since around 0140 UT. 0247: mention of “? laughing box again”, phone operator “hello may I help you” then mary had a little lamb tune played via telephone tones. Go baby!

Radio Margaritaville, 6925 USB, 0414 – good signal! Tuned in to a version of Brown-Eyed Girl. ID at 0416 UT into Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. Lots more Jimmy Buffet, “This is Radio Margaritaville, The Voice of the Coral Republic”, asked for reports to be posted to FRN. Here is a ♫ clip of the sign-off announcement. This is the first time I have heard Radio Margaritaville since July 8, 2009.

UnID, 6925 USB, 0458 – good signal, no announcements. On with Arrested Development’s Tennessee, the Acid Mothers Temples’ Disco Space Baby and finally a cover of All Along the Watchtower and off.

The Crystal Ship, 6876v AM, 2243 – tune in to female computer voice ID, 10 Years After, Steve Miller. Poor signal but slowly improving.

WBNY, 6950.55 AM, 2310 – Heard Paul Starr at tune in, throwing me off the track thinking this was M-A-C. A few minutes later I made out a WBNY ID. Weak signal so far.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, *2326-2355* – Sign-on with “The Voice of KAOS is on the air!”

QSLs Many thanks to Thinking Man for QSLing this weekends broadcast with this interesting QSL, my 6′th from TMR. Also, many thanks to DJ from Radio Ga-Ga for this morse QSL. My email program corrupted the image file before I saved it to my hard drive, and DJ kindly sent a replacement. This is my 15′th Radio Ga-Ga QSL!

I still haven’t got a chance to pick up my QSLs from the mail drop. I’ll post the Channel Z QSL as soon as I get my hands on it..

I’ve really been slacking on DXing the pirates the last few weeks. I been spending most of my DX time lately on shortwave broadcast DX. But Elvis hasn’t left the building.

WBNY, 6924.7v AM, 0014-0035* – tough signal, lots of local electrical QRN. Signal drifting downwards the entire listening time. Beatles songs, Commander Bunny, “Ninety-nine” repeated often. Porky Pig’s “That’s All Folks” at 0034 UTC, WBNY news “theme music” and off.

Radio Ga-Ga, 6930 USB, *0022-0042* – weak signal with significant local QRN/ On with SSTV image then a bunch of dance-themed tunes: Let’s Dance, Let’s Do the Twist, Do The Locomotion, Macarena. 2 final SSTV images at 0039 and 0041 UTC, ID and off.

M-A-C Shortwave, 5850.8v AM, 0043 – transmitter on, MAC interval signal, time pips into the Paul Starr Show. Paul playing oldies such as Hang on Sloopy and Do Wah Diddy and a bunch of other oldies. “The Pirate’s Life For Me” song and off at 0136.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0129 – weak signal, sounds like another station underneath. KAOS with log-on announcement, then Born To Be Wild, Wild Horses, Whole Lotta Love. KAOS mentiong a new QSL!

Outhouse Radio, 6930v USB, 0156 – generally a good signal, but alot of drifting from 6930.7 and down to right about 6930. Dirty Laundry, Let The Good Times Roll, Fly Like and Eagle, Rocket Man and more. Signal stabilized right above 6930 by the end of the broadcast.

Radio Station XXP, 6925 USB, *0219 – variable signal, but able to make out clear ID’s and the music. “Plundering the airwaves” ID’s, email, Jukebox Hero, Rare Earth, Led Zeppelin. Here is an audio clip of the sign-on.

WTCR, 6925 USB, 0249 – very nice signal with great audio! Sign on with 20′th Century Fox theme music, ID and then Whiskey Train by Procol Harum, Daydream by Robin Trower, then Joe Cocker, Earth Wind & Fire, Pretenders, Steely Dan.

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, *0426-0626* – excellent signal, except for a long fade-out starting at 0505 UTC. An excellent broadcast ton of excellent music in this 2 hour marathon: Ben Harper, Led Zeppelin, Edwyn Collins, MC5, Sly & the Family Stone and tons more.

QSLs A hearty thank you to Dr. Morbius at WTCR for sending a paper QSL in the mail! A total surprise, it is always nice getting physical QSLs! I will post it as soon as I get my scanner hooked back up. Thank ya, Dr. Morbius!

An extremely fookin’ nice surprise was two awesome QSL’s from Captain Ganja for my reception of Radio Free Euphoria! I think that is my first bozo related QSL, lol! Thanks a ton Captain Ganja, Radio Free Euphoria is my ~~39′th~~ 40′th different pirate station QSL’d! (I realized tonight that I didn’t have my old WREC QSL from P.J. Sparx on the list, image coming soon!)

I unfortunately lost the contents of my inbox a few days ago, and lost a couple of QSLs before I saved them to disk. Emails being sent out asking for replacements…

My 13′th Radio Ga-Ga QSL was one that I lost on the day the inbox died. Many thanks to D.J. for re-sending it!

Wolverine Radio, 6930 USB, 0246 – good signal, sign on with Barenaked Ladies “Testing One Two Three” song. The rest of the show was all songs having a Texas theme.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0416 – poor signal, but much improved by the end of the show. Played songs by Led Zeppelin, Don Henley and Aerosmith, IDs and commentary from KAOS. Final ID and Get Smart theme at 0428 UTC (audio clip) and off.

Your Right To Know Radio, 6951.9v LSB, 2355 – not too good of a signal this evening, instrumental You Are My Sunshine, talking about government and rights, ID at 0003 UTC.

Radio Ga-Ga, 6925 USB, 0022 – SSTV image, Running With the Devil, Fly Like An Eagle. Final SSTV at 0038 UTC, ID, good weekend wishes and off. You too Radio Ga-Ga!

Voice of Honor, 6925 USB, 0054 – weak signal with noise, but understandable. On with ID, Glory Days, Bad to the Bone, Reeling In The Years. Good to hear the Voice of Honor back on! Major QRM from another station coming on the frequency with Bilbo Baggins and lots of Palin, Bush and McCain audio clips.

M-A-C Shortwave, 6850.8 AM, 0105 – noisy signal so far, Paul Starr hosting. 0145 re-check, coming in well with Ultraman!! I Need You and If I Fell by the Beatles, “Strange Things Are Happening” song

KUSA, 6925 USB, 0144 – poor to fair signal, song Some Gave All song then “KUSA North America” ID (audio clip)
then silent. Back at 0154 UTC at a lower level with unid song, song Freedom Is Not Free then another “KUSA North America” ID at 0201 UTC.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0205 – Good signal! Ruby Tuesday, “Hunting Wabbits”, Gimme Shelter then off for a few minutes. Noticed DCR was back at 0226 playing Spirit, Redrum from The Shining, Pirate Radio Song.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0300 – Keep On Rocking Me Baby, Can’t Get Enough of Your Love. “You are tuned to the Voice of KAOS..” ID into Behind Blue Eyes, Born To Run. QRM from an unidentified station from 0319 until clear at 0324 with Voice of KAOS ID, Man from UNCLE theme and off at 0325 UTC.

Doh, fell asleep early last night! I have lots more loggings to harvest from the Perseus ‘dirft net’.

QSLs It is a nice holiday, no work and two QSLs have already arrived making the QSL Album fat. Make that that three QSLs today!

Hah, a really cool QSL here from the Voice of KAOS, v6 is his series. This is the third different Voice of KAOS eQSL design that I received. KAOS mentioned perhaps another transmission this weekend, so maybe I can catch it I can talk him into sending me one of the older versions.

The second QSL of the day is from Radio Casablanca, the fifth design of their series. Fortunately, I have the complete series in the QSL Album. Rick advised there may be one more QSL in this series yet to come.

The third QSL is from Outhouse Radio, which makes my 4′th QSL from him. Is that your hot rod, hah?!

Outhouse Radio, 6915.12 USB, 2255-2302 – Non-stop “singing” chickens. No announcements heard. Outhouse Radio confirmed on FRN that this was him.

Radio Appalachia, 6929.9v AM, 2331 – drifting signal, poor level at tune in playing Wabash Cannonball into more banjo flavored bluegrass songs. As signal drifts upward, the op intermittently tunes it back down. I Saw The Light at 2345 UTC. Signal slowly improving towards the top of the hour, Beverly Hillbillies theme at 2356 UTC. Last heard on May 23′rd.

Your Right To Know, YRTK, 6952.97 LSB, 2346-0013 – opening announcements, Secret Agent Man, ID [audio clip], Marvin Gay song, Bob Dylan. Final announcements at 0012 and off.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6925v, 0121-0147 – good signal but significant drifting. Rock tunes, Twilight Zone theme, IDs and email. Interesting mix, aptly dubbed Low Twilight Rider Zone mashup by Lex on IRC.

Radio Jamba International, 6926.5 USB, 0150 – tune in to violin music (?), talk mentioning America, clear RJI ID at 0159. Just above threshold. QRM from Voice of KAOS at 0200 UTC, covering RJI.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0200 – fair signal with ID’s, Keep On Rocking Me Baby, ID, Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Behind Blue Eyes.

Radio Casablanca, 6939.9v AM, 0211 – Tune in interval signal, National Anthem, “Your are tuned to Radio Casablanca” into old jazzy vocal. Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) at 0222 UTC then ID and email. Audio clip from movie. Excellent show again!

KHAQQ, 6925 USB, 0228 – outstanding show, excellent signal on the anniversary of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Here is my recording of the entire show. KHAQQ was Amelia Earhart’s call sign when her plane was lost, and her last transmission was with the U.S. Coastguard cutter Itasca. Program of swing songs, Amelia calling Itasca: “Hello Itasca, come in Itasca. This is KHAQQ. KHAQQ. Come in Itasca, over.” Excellent!

Under Cover Radio, 6925, 0251 – op with “Hello Radio”, giving email address, mentioning 4′th of July.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0302 – fair signal from DCR, played Fly Like an Eagle, High Flying Bird by Elton John, Love Struck Baby. ID at 0322 and off. Noticed back on at 0332 playing Only Happy When It Rains, All Along The Watchtower cover, Cat Scratch Fever, Stray Cat Strut, DCR ID at 0354 and gone again.

Outhouse Radio, 6925.18 USB, 0357 – Tune it to N.I.B. with Ozzy’s vocals at a very strange pitch, lol. Get The Party Started. N.I.B. again with the pitch all hosed, into Stiff Upper Lip by AC/DC. N.I.B. intro into Voodoo Child at 0413. Gotta be Outhouse… It is. Thanks man!

We Monkey Radio, 6924.73 AM, 0452 – We Monkey Radio with Woolly Bully, frequent ID’s and playing short pieces of songs. Played a minute of Cats In The Cradle. My Sharona. Repeating Monkey mix at 0508. Betty Davis Eyes.

WBNY, 6925 USB, 0625-0713 – WEAK Radio’s DJ Knobtwister then Paul Star, Uncle Bob, Sycko, Maharishi and other personalities stating “I’m a good monkey”. Commander Bunny mentioning new subliminal message has been broadcast and to contact him at the Belfast drop. BNN interviews Hillary and Bill about presidential candidate Commander Bunny and his running mate Kracker.

WTPR, CHKN, Radio World Monkey Domination relays, 6913.53 AM, 1301 – early morning reception, relaying multiple pirates broadcasts. “You have heard W-T-P-R Radio…or you will suffer the consequences…”, old big band song “My Girl’s Pussy”, Radio World Monkey Domination ID at 1311 UTC (audio clip). Chicken man episodes at 1334 UTC, ID by chicken afterwards “C-H-K-N Radio”

QSLs Man, two days without any pirate radio QSLs! It has been tough on Evil Monkey, he’s been wanting a scrip for Valium he was so depressed. But after that poor lady got mauled by that chimp on Xanax a while back, I had to put my foot down and so no. Good thing though, ’cause WEAK Radio hooked me up with this QSL right before midnight! No Evil Monkey can get to look at the pretty pictures in the Disgraceland QSL Album before bed time.

Godzilla Radio, 6925.5 USB, 1316 – chatter about Godzilla, ID’s. Op sounded a bit like Ultraman. Deep fades but strong during peaks. Either signed off or faded way down at 1327.

Radio Ga-Ga, 6925 USB, 2347 – SSTV image, Star-Spangled Banner by Jimi, Tom Jones, Gitarzan then the final SSTV image (pictired here) at 2359 USB. The first SSTV was received extremely poorly. Signal had improved by the time the second SSTV image was broadcast. Thanks Ga-Ga!

UnID, 6925.05 AM, 0018 – weak signal with moderate static levels, unable to ID.

UnID, 6925.8 AM, 0018 – another weak signal with moderate static levels, unable to ID.

Radio Wa-Wa, 6925.3 USB, 0021 – transmission consisted solely of a SSTV image in Scottie DX mode.

The Crystal Ship, 6876 AM, 0048 – poor signal, ID. Much better signal at 0218 with interview discussing Senator Kennedy.

Radio Marlene, 6925.06 USB, 0051 – Radio Marlene ID and email address, YMCA by the Village People, another ID mentioning Jersey. Weak signal but crisp audio. New station for me!

M-A-C Shortwave (tentative), 6950.65 AM, 0114 – eclectic mix of oldies, 60’s rock, jazz vocal. Not able to ID any of the songs yet. ID at 0130 but couldn’t get it. Hey Joe cover at 0131? Lex caught a M-A-C ID, some presume this was them.

Unid, 6925.3v USB, 0136 – a strange mix mentioning various AM stations such as WABC. Surely some Sycko madness, lol?

Outhouse Radio, 6925.1 USB, 0200 – re-broadcast of the Obama D Day speech. No ID heard, but Outhouse verified this was indeed him honoring the veterans. Huge signal, by far the best of the night. Thanks Outhouse!

The Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0237 – repeat of last nights broadcast, hip hops songs, multiple ID’s and email address. Better signal than last night! Thank you KAOS!

Barnyard Radio, 6925 USB, 0312 – barely audible. Brief peak at 0227 with Barnyard Radio ID. Good fade up at 0520 with ID. “North America’s Most listened to station… known as Barnyard Radio” promo at 0526. Blues Brothers with Everybody Needs Somebody To Love at 0529, Mony Mony, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Hoodoo Gurus. Chuck Manson at 0547 giving the play list. This is an excellent signal now! There Is A War by Leonard Cohen, Last Day of Magic by The Kills.

Dead Cat Radio, 6930 USB, 0418 – opening with a SSTV image of a kitty, Wrecking Ball by Emyylou Harris, White Flag & Life For Rent by Dido, Good Girls Don’t by the Knack, Love Struck Baby by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gloria by Van Morrison. ID at 0450 UTC.

QSLs Received a verie nice QSL from the Voice of KAOS for last nights broadcast. Thank you, KAOS! Looking forward to the next broadcast!

The Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0047 – Voice of KAOS ID’s, Emeniem song, mentions of GM and Obama.. and a new QSL Off with ID, email addy and Get Smart theme music at 0111 UTC. Unfortunately a rather poor signal this evening.

Radio Ga-Ga, 6925 USB, 0132 – Radio Ga-Ga back on the air, starting with SSTV image then a few songs including 30 Days In The Hole. Another SSTV image at 0144 UTC then off. Poor signal tonight, the SSTV de-codes are not even worth posting they are so bad :/

Outhouse Radio, 6925v USB and AM, 0203 – started out on 6922 USB, then jumped up to 6925 USB at 0204, switched to AM at 0209 and back to USB at 0214 UTC! Outhouse Radio ID at 0220 mentioning he was keeping us tuning around, played Hawaii 5-0 again and the final ID and “I’m outta here” and gone at 0223. Best signal of the night so far. Thanks Outhouse!

Wolverine Radio, 6925 USB, 0241 – started out with fair to good peaks, Barenaked Ladies, Whipping Post, Rebel Rebel and more rock. Signal faded down quit a bit by 0300 UTC. When The Levee Breaks by Zeppelin! Robin Trower with Bridge of Sighs, Jethro Tull.

Current Time Radio, 6925 USB, 0036 – short 2 minute broadcast giving a shout out to Lex, WEAK Radio and Evil Elvis! Caught this one in my Perseus ‘dirft net’, major thanks to Lex for the tip!

Radio Ga-Ga, 6925 USB, 0123 – weak SSTV, Billy Idol, Eric Clapton then a final SSTV image at 0139 which I got a poor decode on. Not a good signal from Radio Ga-Ga tonight.

Sycko Radio, 6925 USB, 0140 – Sycko madness with some “electromagnetic waves” and brain waves” craziness, just after Ga-Ga left the air. Much stronger signal that than Radio Ga-Ga.

KPR Radio, 6927.5v USB, 0212 – initially weak with a Doors marathon, much improved by 0240 with Angel of the Morning song, a clear ID at 0302. Thanks to Lex and Producer on IRC for IDing this early on!

QSLs A very nice QSL arrived this morning from the Voice of KAOS for last evenings broadcast on 6,925 kHz USB. Thank ya, thank ya very much KAOS!
