Okay, I have been slacking hard with posting my logs here. I am going to my best to keep up tonight… Also, for a little blog bling here is a SSTV image from Radio Ga-Ga received last night at 0322 UT on 6925.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.5v AM, 2130 – great signal at tune-in, Albert Collin’s I Ain’t Drunk. Signal faded down quickly and remained at threshold level besides a few minor peaks, all blues music. Sounded like this was a repeat of Captain Morgan’s ‘Blues With a Bite’ show. Looks like he is off at 2212 UT.

WBNY Shortwave (tentative), 6900 AM, 2248 – decent carrier but audio is rather low at tune-in. Inc0gni0 on #pirateradio says he is hearing Commander Bunny.

Radio Ronin Shortwave, 6950.6v AM, *2343 – on with Stones’ Satisfaction interval signal, ID into Ram Jam, Head East, Buffalo Springfield old classics. Fair signal, nice modulation.

UnID, 6849.4 AM, 0012 – Could be M-A-C, relaying last week’s pirate radio special that was on AM radio, with Pat Murphy. Very low signal, getting better around 0045 to follow some of the audio. At 0105 the program content appears to have changed as I heard some Jay Smilkstein stuff on now. Still goinjg at 0200 but unfortunately at a very threshold level.

Outhouse Radio, 6926.14 AM, 0050 – Outhouse rocking the ionosphere with a Black Sabbath marathon! Very nice signal with Black Sabbath, The Wizard and more of the classics.. even Changes. Signal ended up fading out to barely audible!

UnID, 6925 USB, 0120 – Good signal except het from Outhouse. Played a bluegrass tune ‘Waterloo’ and gone, one and done!

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, 0124 – by far the best signal of the night, WEAK at a S9+20 level with awesome modulation. Music by Bloc Party, The Sounds, System of a Down, Rose Tattoo and much more. Awesome!

Wolverine Radio, 6925 USB, 0300 – Nice signal from Wolverine, opening with usual Barenaked Ladies Testing 1,2,3. Tonight’s set is mostly oldie songs from Coasters, Louis Jordan and Little Richard. Lots more, good signal. Finishing up with Whats Love Got To DO With It and then a James Brown SSTV image at 0443.

Gumby Radio, 6930 USB, 0458 – awesome Gumby concept show! Tribute to Art Clokey and Gumbies TV debut in 1956 with monolgue of Art talking about LSD and Mescaline experiences. Bend Me, Shape Me song, Beatles and off at 0531 with “If you would like a QSL for this program, you probably need psychiatric help”. LOL

Radio Jamba International, 6899.85 AM, 0542 – Just when I thought the pirates had furled their sailed for the night, I find Kracker staying up late with a nice LIVE AM signal just below 6900 kHz. Song by Cake at 0545 then a shout out by Kracker mentioning my FRN report. Songs by the Doors, Zappa, and a RJI style public service warning about the dangers of music. Deep fade at 0605 during Riders on the Storm but I am going to stick with it for a while to see if it returns.

Wow, tons of activity tonight. Hopefully this is an indication of a lots of activity over the holiday weekend. Thanks to all the ops out there!

WHYP Pirate Shortwave, 6874.8 AM, 0000 – Tune in to I Shot the Sheriff. Excellent show with Kracker joining JD for another awesome broadcast.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.3 AM, 0020 – the Captain firing up the Pirate Zone with some of thate excellent old blues music. Why do I get this feeling that Captain Morgan broadcast from down around Nawlins? Also found him back again later in the evening at 0214 UT.

f00kin’ Family Radio Shortwave kraziness, 6849.46 AM, 0316 – not sure who was behind this or the proper identification, but what an awesome show. Brother Levi at Family Radio offering to assist with sex change operations, now Brother Stair preaching on monkey life beginning at conception. Seeking donations to keep Family Radio Shortwave on the air 800-543-1495. Awesome!

Radio Ga-Ga, 6925 USB, 2118 – threshold audio, bubbling along just above noise floor. Was able to distinguish Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder at 2118 and SSTV at 2133. Want to see the awesome SSTV image I could decode? OK:

WEAK, 6930 USB, 2228 – after reading the logs on FRN for the past hour and not hearing a peep, I finally started getting some threshold audio just before 2220 UT. W-E-A-K ID by DJ Knobtwister at 2228, then I Wanna Be Your Dog and Real Cool Time by Iggy & the Stooges, more Iggy as the signal faded.

WHYP Shortwave, 6974.8 AM, *2354 – James Brownyard’s WHYP kicked out the jams with a huge signal again! Very nice to hear WHYP nightly!

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.3v AM, 0007 – weak signal, but defintely the Captain with the Twilight Zone them song.

Ragnar’s latest edition of the Pirate’s Week podcast is out! I had an early start this morning, and was able to catch the Voice of the Last DJ!

WLDJ Voice of the Last DJ, 6925 USB, *1356-1423* – nice signal this morning, playing old school rock like Hendrix, Bad Company, Foreigner and Dire Straits. Multiple ID’s by Krystal, the computer generated female voice announcer. Here is an audio clip of the ID at 1418 UT: ♫ clip. Thank you for the early morning broadcast!

WBNY Relay Service, 6899.6 AM, *1950-2222 – started off at threshold levels and slowly strengthening after 0000 UT. Relays of Pirate’s Week, Voice of Next Thursday, promos for WBNY hats and t-shirts. *Perseus Update* noted WBNY signing on at 1950 UT with threshold audio with deep fades. A few sudden strong peaks noted around 2017z with Pirate’s Week relay programming. Another nice peak at 2218z with Ragnar talking about Sealord’s awesome DX Engineering 4 Square antenna.

The Crystal Ship, 6876.04v, *2228-0310* – very nice signal from Poet this evening, starting off with a Ho Ho Ho & a Bottle of Rum interval signal, lot’s of Elvis tunes, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others. Almost a 5 hour marathon!

Radio Ronin Shortwave, 6950.4 AM, *2308-0110* – poor to fair signal, playing rocks tune by Blue Öyster Cult, the Animals, Bob Seger, Foghat, Billy Idol, multiple IDs. Off at 0110 with ID and email.

The Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, *2323 – KAOS signing on with Get Smart theme a repeat broadcast of the Friday evening show. Weak signal but generally readable, het from presumed Outhouse on 6925.2 AM. Hold Your Head Up

Barnyard Radio, 6930 USB, *0049-0310* – Barnyard with blowtorch signal. Chuck Manson spinning heavy tunes by Manowar, Testament, Dead Kennedys, Slayer and much more. Here is a off-air recording of the first 50 minutes of the show:

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.8v AM, *0119 – good signal from the Captain, playing tons of obscure old blues tunes, excellent show.

Coyote Radio CYOT, 6950.4 AM, 0134 – Mr. Announcer spinning oldies, wishing a happy Mothers Day. Rather poor signal this evening.

Outhouse Radio, 6925 USB, 0213 – fair signal from Outhouse, playing some blues, Sabbath, Bob Seger. Outhouse mentioned he left his AM transmitter up for 7 hours. I had the carrier here but audio was threshold at best.

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, 0325 – tuned in to WEAK in progress, and this time the signal was weak. I did cath one clear ID, but that was about all I could pull out of the broadcast.

Check out these two totally awesome QSL’s received, one from Coyote Radio and the other from WHYP Shortwave! A big thank you, thank you very much goes out to Mr. Announcer and James Brownyard! Both of these are new pirate stations verified for me!

I just realized that I never scanned and posted my Channel Z and WREC QSL cards that I received last year! I will do that soon.

Pirate Radio Logs – May 1-2

I was able to kick the local QRN I mentioned the other day. The culprit turned out to be a Western Digital ‘The Book’ USB drive, that joker was putting out massive 10 khz wide blobs of noise spaced every 30 kHz from LF to about 20 mHz. Now I can listen to some pirates!

Northwoods Radio, 6925 USB, 2200 – weak but slowly improving. Playing song First of May by Jonathan Coulton multiple times, ID, loon calls and more songs. 2245: signal improving, Jackpine talking about the first of May “and you know what that means” and mentioning upcoming major upgrades to Northwoods Radio. Also mentioning he will be on later tonight.

WEAK Radio, 6940 USB, 2313 – huge perfect S9+10 signal with crazy crisp audio. Started off playing back to back Blackfoot tunes, WEAK ID, Devo, The Black Keys.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.7v AM, 2323 – another huge signal from the Captain, started off S8 then soon up to S9+10. Playing lots of oldie blues numbers, ID and email address. Slowly drifting downward.

Derby Shortwave, 6930 USB, 0034 – Derby Shortwave is one the air! Bugle call, Old Kentucky Home song, ID and email, fair to good signal.

CYOT Radio, 6950.4v AM, 0045 – poor signal with fair peaks, playing Grand Funk, Kid Rock, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan. Finally got a ID and email. New station for me!!

Outhouse Radio, 6924.6v USB, 0130 – Outhouse is in the house! Excellent S9+10 signal!

Northwoods Radio, 6935 USB, 0135 – Northwoods Radio back, playing First of May song again. Nice S9+10 signal.

Wolverine Radio, 6950 USB 0234 – on the air with outstanding S9+10 signal into Barenaked Ladies Testing 1,2,3 then into Cream songs.

Radio ?, 6924.5 USB, 0258 – tune in to Rocketman, comedy skit about a bear attack (grin and bear it), more songs, another Elton Jon song. I just can’t get the ID, I thought I heard Radio Rewind, Radio Free Love and now olddxer says he thinks it was Radio Free Mars. Played Rocketman again at 0326, so perhaps Radio Free Mars is correct.

New England Radio, 6925 USB, 0447 – weak signal, tune in to Rooster by Alice in Chains, bluegrass instrumental. Announcement at 0454 during fade. Looking At the World Through a Windshield, Son of a Preacher Man, Def Leppard and more. New station! Forever in Blue Jeans by Neal Diamond and off at 0548. No contact info given, please QSL if you are reading!

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6925.5v USB, 0045 – a whole lotta drifting going on! Captain Morgan in the pirate zone playing I Ain’t Drunk, Mama Told Me, Twilight Zone theme, ID, Magic Carpet Ride, Jumping Jack Flash. Only playing excerpts of many of the songs.

UnID, 6948.88 AM, 0105 – non-stop electronic instrumental tune until off at 0119 UTC.

QSLs Many thanks to KAOS for re-sending a QSL that was recently lost when my inbox died. Also, another QSL arrived for last nights broadcast. ~~He accidentally sent me Delta Charlie’s QSL tho! Delta Charlie, did you get mine?~~ Got mine! That makes my 6′th Voice of KAOS QSL, thanks KAOS!

Another new QSL arrived this morning from Radio Station XXP for last nights broadcast. This is my 4′th QSL from XXP. Thank ya very much!

QSL’s keep rolling in, just got a Radio Ga-Ga QSL for last nights show. Goes to show that there is no telling what you can find in a Perseus Dirft-net! Thank DJ, that is my 14′th Radio Ga-Ga QSL!!

And rolling! This QSL from Outhouse has me laughing my ass off. That is fookin’ funny! This is my 11′th Outhouse Radio QSL, thanks Outhouse!

Pirate Radio Logs + QSLs – July 12-13, 2009

Disgraceland was hit by another storm early this morning and knocked power out for most of the day.

UnID, 6925 USB, 0058 – excellent peak signals but long, deep fades. Tune-in at 0058 with the program in progress, sounds like it is repeating with baseball reporting, disco demolition. Appears to have left the air at 0130 UTC.

Radio Marlene, 6925 USB, 0140 – poor signal, finally caught a clear Radio Marlene ID at 0151 UTC, into Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell.

The Crystal Ship, 6876 AM, 0200 – Fair signal, playing msuic I’ve not been familiar with. Strong ID at 0204 UTC by female computer voice, into more music.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6925.7v AM, 0209 – good signal from Captain Morgan tonight. Set including Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and Wrap It Up. ID’s, email and Twilight Zone theme.

Outhouse Radio, 6930.7v, 0215 – strong signal, significant deep fading. Smoking Cock BBQ spoof commerical at tune in, later playing Elton John, One Toke Over the Line, others. ID by Outhouse.

QSLs I have lots more QSL’s to report, including one new station!

First up is a nice new QSL design from Wild Bill at YRTK, verifying last night’s reception on 6953 kHz LSB. This is the second YRTK QSL in the album. Thank you, Wild Bill!

The second QSL is a disturbing new QSL from Outhouse Radio for yesterday’s ‘morning show’ on 6925 kHz USB. By the way, that was a good breakfast! This is my 6′th QSL from Outhouse, thank ya, Mr. Outhouse!

Third up is a QSL from Radio Casablanca to verify last night’s broadcast, making this my 6′th QSL from the Voice of free French Morocco. Radio Casablanca is an excellent program, well worth tuning in for some excellent nostalgia. Thank you, Rick!

The fourth QSL is from the Rhino Radio Network for last night’s broadcast of Polka Dot Rhino Radio! That poor Rhino is really dedicated! This makes my 4′th QSL from the Rhino Radio Network. Thank you, Rhino!

The the latest QSL just received was am excellent surprise from All Aboard Radio, which I reported yesterday evening on 6925 kHz USB. I’ve heard and reported this station here and on FRN quite a few times since April, and sure wasn’t expecting a QSL! This is pirate radio station #35 verified… Thank you, Casey Jones!!

Pirate Radio Logs + WEAK Radio QSL – July 8-9, 2009

My apologies for this late posting! I accidentally took a nap after work, and just never got caught up after sitting down at the controls of the Perseus. Some of these logs are “live”, and others are being harvest this morning from the Perseus dirft-net. Crazy active night for the middle of the week!

Thinking Man Radio, 6925, 0117 – tune in during mid-program, good signal but soon fading significantly. Midnight Rider, ID and email, last song Lighter Shade of Pale, one last ID and gone at 0128 UTC.

Captain Morgan Shortwave (tentative), 6923.6v AM, 0146 – Tentative Captain Morgan due to short bit of Twilight Zone theme heard. No announcements heard. Audio slightly distorted and transmitter jumping around approx. +/- 100 Hz. Set included Brown Sugar, The Call Me The Breeze, Play That Funky Music and Drift Away.

Pirate Radio USA relay via Outhouse Radio, 6925 USB, 0129 – ID of “This is a special broadcast transmission from Pirate Radio USA originating from KQLZ FM Los Angeles” (audio clip). Brief transmission.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0204 – moderate signal with lots of static. Crosby Still & Nash songs, ID at 0220 UTC and off.

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, 0238 – great signal from WEAK! Set included James Brown, Dr. Demento, Elvis the Singing Dog, Bob Marley, etc. Parents of Girls Gone Wild spoof commercial. Multiple ID’s.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0255 – noticed DCR back at 0255 with a better signal. Set included Buffy Come Back, Johnny Are Your Queer, Video Killed The Radio Star and other. ID at 0315 and off again.

M-A-C Shortwave, 6924.7v AM, 0325 – Interval weakly heard, times pips, Ultraman heard at 0332 UTC. Extremely weak, threshold audio. Splatter from WYFR.

Radio Margaritaville, 6930 USB, 0408-0508 – initially threshold signal slowly improving too fair levels by 0420 UTC. Back to back Jimmy Buffett songs, set included Miss You So Badly, Incommunicado, It’s My Job and more. ID at 0508 UTC. Station jumped down to 6925 kHz USB at 0508 UTC. New station! Fingers crossed for a QSL…

Radio Margaritaville, 6925 USB, 0508-0538 – good signal. Back to back Jimmy Buffett songs, set included Distantly In Love, Come To The Moon, Somewhere Over China and more. ID at 0521 UTC (audio clip).

Outhouse Radio, 6930 USB, 0459-0559 – good signal, set included Powerman 500, Cars, Rob Zombie, S.T.P., Steve Miller, ZZ Top, Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix. Off at 0559 UTC.

UnID, 6925 USB, 0557-0618 – generally a decent signal, no ID or announcements heard. Set including B.O.C., April Wine, Garbage. Off at 0618 UTC.

UnID, 6925 USB, 0655-0712 – poor signal, no ID or announcements heard. Tune in to Year of the Cat by Al Stewart. Played a few more songs I couldn’t make out, then Walking In Memphis at 0707 UTC and appearing to leave the air at 0712 UTC.

QSLs WEAK Radio hooked Lex and I up with this nice QSL tonight’s broadcast. This makes 12 different WEAK Radio QSLs in the Album. Evil Monkey loves WEAK! Thank you, thank you very much!

Outhouse Radio, 6915.12 USB, 2255-2302 – Non-stop “singing” chickens. No announcements heard. Outhouse Radio confirmed on FRN that this was him.

Radio Appalachia, 6929.9v AM, 2331 – drifting signal, poor level at tune in playing Wabash Cannonball into more banjo flavored bluegrass songs. As signal drifts upward, the op intermittently tunes it back down. I Saw The Light at 2345 UTC. Signal slowly improving towards the top of the hour, Beverly Hillbillies theme at 2356 UTC. Last heard on May 23′rd.

Your Right To Know, YRTK, 6952.97 LSB, 2346-0013 – opening announcements, Secret Agent Man, ID [audio clip], Marvin Gay song, Bob Dylan. Final announcements at 0012 and off.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6925v, 0121-0147 – good signal but significant drifting. Rock tunes, Twilight Zone theme, IDs and email. Interesting mix, aptly dubbed Low Twilight Rider Zone mashup by Lex on IRC.

Radio Jamba International, 6926.5 USB, 0150 – tune in to violin music (?), talk mentioning America, clear RJI ID at 0159. Just above threshold. QRM from Voice of KAOS at 0200 UTC, covering RJI.

Voice of KAOS, 6925 USB, 0200 – fair signal with ID’s, Keep On Rocking Me Baby, ID, Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Behind Blue Eyes.

Radio Casablanca, 6939.9v AM, 0211 – Tune in interval signal, National Anthem, “Your are tuned to Radio Casablanca” into old jazzy vocal. Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) at 0222 UTC then ID and email. Audio clip from movie. Excellent show again!

KHAQQ, 6925 USB, 0228 – outstanding show, excellent signal on the anniversary of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Here is my recording of the entire show. KHAQQ was Amelia Earhart’s call sign when her plane was lost, and her last transmission was with the U.S. Coastguard cutter Itasca. Program of swing songs, Amelia calling Itasca: “Hello Itasca, come in Itasca. This is KHAQQ. KHAQQ. Come in Itasca, over.” Excellent!

Under Cover Radio, 6925, 0251 – op with “Hello Radio”, giving email address, mentioning 4′th of July.

Dead Cat Radio, 6925 USB, 0302 – fair signal from DCR, played Fly Like an Eagle, High Flying Bird by Elton John, Love Struck Baby. ID at 0322 and off. Noticed back on at 0332 playing Only Happy When It Rains, All Along The Watchtower cover, Cat Scratch Fever, Stray Cat Strut, DCR ID at 0354 and gone again.

Outhouse Radio, 6925.18 USB, 0357 – Tune it to N.I.B. with Ozzy’s vocals at a very strange pitch, lol. Get The Party Started. N.I.B. again with the pitch all hosed, into Stiff Upper Lip by AC/DC. N.I.B. intro into Voodoo Child at 0413. Gotta be Outhouse… It is. Thanks man!

We Monkey Radio, 6924.73 AM, 0452 – We Monkey Radio with Woolly Bully, frequent ID’s and playing short pieces of songs. Played a minute of Cats In The Cradle. My Sharona. Repeating Monkey mix at 0508. Betty Davis Eyes.

WBNY, 6925 USB, 0625-0713 – WEAK Radio’s DJ Knobtwister then Paul Star, Uncle Bob, Sycko, Maharishi and other personalities stating “I’m a good monkey”. Commander Bunny mentioning new subliminal message has been broadcast and to contact him at the Belfast drop. BNN interviews Hillary and Bill about presidential candidate Commander Bunny and his running mate Kracker.

WTPR, CHKN, Radio World Monkey Domination relays, 6913.53 AM, 1301 – early morning reception, relaying multiple pirates broadcasts. “You have heard W-T-P-R Radio…or you will suffer the consequences…”, old big band song “My Girl’s Pussy”, Radio World Monkey Domination ID at 1311 UTC (audio clip). Chicken man episodes at 1334 UTC, ID by chicken afterwards “C-H-K-N Radio”

QSLs Man, two days without any pirate radio QSLs! It has been tough on Evil Monkey, he’s been wanting a scrip for Valium he was so depressed. But after that poor lady got mauled by that chimp on Xanax a while back, I had to put my foot down and so no. Good thing though, ’cause WEAK Radio hooked me up with this QSL right before midnight! No Evil Monkey can get to look at the pretty pictures in the Disgraceland QSL Album before bed time.
